Residents are not a 'special interest'

I would like to address the Shasta Alliance ad in the Sept. 25 edition and more recently the mailer sent to my home, with a "No" on Measure C message.

I would urge the voters to "follow the money." I have been involved with the Citizens Planning Commission since its inception and our creation of Measure C. We are a grass-roots organization, operating on a shoestring budget. The only thing special about our interest is that we want to preserve and protect the rural atmosphere and the beauty of the community we chose to live in.

We have no minimum requirements to join us. (However, a little time and elbow grease is always appreciated.)

The Shasta Alliance is an organization of builders, contractors, business owners, and their attorneys who would love to develop every lot of land they can get their hands on -- in the interest of their own wallets. They require $1,000 per person to join their organization. (They must expect more of a return on their investment than just community appreciation.)

As for the quote in the ad by the Shasta Lake city attorney, I have "a home out there on a small lot" (1.25 acres) and I am not at all concerned about the passage of Measure C.

I am aware of its text, I am aware of its intent, and I fully support the passage of Measure C.
Bill Grewell,
